The anthropoid and the pupae were struck by a peacock during a lightning storm ~ causing a mutation during metamorphosis. 

 

The life stages of a luna moth are approximately 10 days as eggs, 6–7 weeks as larvae, 2-3 weeks as pupae, and one week as adults.
